Fuel combustion in your Mitsubishi engine creates water vapour. As it passes along your Mitsubishi's cold exhaust pipes it condenses back into liquid water.
Sulphur and Nitrogen Oxide gases passing through you Mitsubishi's catalytic converter are absorbed by the water creating Acidic moisture that can attack the steel of your Mitsubishi exhaust.
Your Mitsubishi Silencer is the last part of the exhaust system to be heated and on short journeys may not heat up enough to eliminate the acidic condensation.
